Family fun in Cornwall this Winter

The chillier temperatures and shorter days don’t mean you have to stay inside in ‘hibernation mode’ this winter. Here in Cornwall, there is so much to see and do – and at Glynn Barton, we’re here to make sure your days aren’t boring, even when the rain is pouring!

We have a magical mix of activities and indoor areas onsite to keep the whole family entertained throughout the colder days:

  • Take a dip in our heated pool: set to just the right temperature you wouldn’t know it was 5 degrees outside! Let the kids burn off some of that never-ending energy, whilst you put your feet up with a much-needed hot drink.
  • Make the most of our indoor soft play barn: jam-packed with a ball pool, slides, learning games and more!
  • Little Bakers Box: after a day filled with swimming, splashing and play – why not spend some quality time in the comfort of your own cottage baking some delicious treats together? Your Little Bakers Box will be filled with all the ingredients and instructions needed to create and enjoy some mouth-watering, edible masterpieces together!

Fancy exploring a little further afield?

Cornwall is crammed with family-friendly days out whatever the weather. Many of these are just a stone’s throw from Glynn Barton…

The Eden Project

Located on the outskirts of nearby St Austell, The Eden Project is just under a 25-minute drive from Glynn Barton. With 30 acres and two huge indoor Biomes to explore (both of which are heated to replicate the natural climate of both a Rainforest and the Mediterranean – great for warming up on a cold day!), the Eden Project is a guaranteed great day out immersed in nature and adventure.

If that wasn’t enough, throughout the year The Eden Project boasts a range of themed events for the whole family to take part in. This winter, why not have a go at Ice Skating? Their famous glittering rink opens its doors on October 14th and runs until February 2024. Sessions include a Family Fun Skate as well as a Parent and Toddler Session. So, lace up your skates and enjoy the winter wonderland!

Until December 2023, there is also an Early Years Activities programme to participate in. Developed for under 5’s and their families, the recreational sessions include Music in the Med, Yoga Buds and the Little Eden club.

*Booking is required for all additional activities at The Eden Project, some of which incur a small additional fee.

The National Maritime Museum

An hour away is The National Maritime Museum, whose range of seasonal exhibitions aim to enrich your understanding of Cornwall and the ocean through exploration, play and stories.

Open daily from 10am-5pm, their major exhibition (which runs until December 2024) is ‘PIRATES – Explore Beneath the Surface’. Kids and grown-ups alike can discover more about the dashing and daring adventures of 18th-century pirates through this interactive, immersive experience. Plus, the Skull Playzone will keep your little pirates busy for hours.

Visiting Cornwall during the October Half Term? On October 31st The National Marine Museum is open out of hours for a spooktacular Halloween event. Join them for spooky storytelling, Halloween craft workshops, a pirate ghost ship trail and more!

Super Tramp Cornwall

Named “the best trampoline park in Cornwall”, Super Tramp Park is just a 12-minute drive away from Glynn Barton. From toddlers to teens, trampoline sessions are bookable for either 1 or 2 hours and are designed for all ages. The Tot’s Club is ideal for those under 5 – with plenty of other sessions available that are better suited for older kids. Family Bounce sessions are also on offer, to keep the parents from feeling left out!

Bodmin Jail

Another local attraction that’s perfect for wet, rainy days is Bodmin Jail. Just a short 14-minute drive from Glynn Barton, Bodmin Jail is a world-class family experience that showcases the fascinating history of crime and punishment through heritage tours and paranormal experiences. (Please note, this is not suitable for children under 8 years old or for those who scare easily!).

This Winter, delve into the rich history of the Jail through a variety of events:

In October, join in on a Heritage Guided Tour.

Visiting in November? The Junior Jailers Tour invites the whole family to step back in time whilst learning all about the villainous ways of the Victorians – and the punishment that comes with it!

Come December, a guided Ghost Walk will get your pulses racing for a frightful family day out.

Kidz World Cornwall

Half an hour away is Kidzworld Adventure Play, a perfect place to visit on a wet winter’s day. Kidzworld boasts 9 onsite attractions and is open 7 days a week for 12 months of the year!
