Our Favourite Things to do on Rainy Days in Cornwall

Whilst a holiday in Cornwall may be seen as a classic summer activity, this special county has just as much to offer during the autumn and winter months where ‘liquid sunshine’ is a little more prevalent! To help inspire your next out of season trip (or even just a rainy summer’s day), we’ve put together some rainy day activities that are sure to delight the whole family.

Discovering42, Bodmin

Based in Priory Park in Bodmin, Discovering42 is a fab little trip out for the entire family! This award-winning exhibition reimagines reality as we know it. Explore the immersive space and get hands on with how things work. It will both amaze and baffle you! It’s a small show but great to tie in with the below….

Super Tramp, Bodmin

From toddlers to teenagers, this trampoline park is the perfect way for kids (and adults!) to have fun whilst burning off that excess energy- or sit back, have a cup of tea and watch them bounce! Located in Bodmin, Super Tramp is open every day of the week and has a variety of sessions, including family bounce, tots club and even a soft play area. Tickets can be purchased online and a full timetable of activities is available via their website.

Eden Project, Par

One of Cornwall’s best known attractions, the Eden Project is bursting with family friendly fun and only a 20 minute drive away from Glynn Barton. Once a former clay mine that had left the landscape barren, it has been transformed with biomes that bring exotic environments to life right here in Cornwall. Swap your wellies for your explorer’s hat and transport yourself to the indoor rainforest where you can immerse yourself in the natural world and enjoy the Mediterranean climate. The boys love the discovery centre too where Infinity Blue a giant ceramic sculpture puffs out smoke rings to catch. Hours of entertainment! If you’re really keen, join in the Eden Project Park run at 9am on Saturdays and then spend the rest of the day there.

Bodmin & Wenford Railway, Bodmin

All aboard! What better way to appreciate the beauty of the Cornish countryside than from a traditional locomotive train? Bodmin and Wenford Railway have a 6½ mile long railway track that runs from Bodmin Parkway through to Boscarne Junction. A journey along the full length of the track is 13 miles and takes approximately 2 hours. They also hold various events throughout the year, particularly around Christmas, making a trip here extra magical during the cold and damp months! So whether its Santa by steam or Steam and cream its great for everyone.

Screech Owl Sanctuary, Indian Queens

One for the animal lovers, the Screech Owl Sanctuary provides vital care for sick and injured birds, as well as being home to a variety of permanent residents that visitors can book meet and greets with! These are age restricted so do check their website for updates. During the winter season, entry to the sanctuary is free but donations are appreciated. The sanctuary is committed to ensuring all their facilities are accessible, with much of it indoors, including the flight displays which are also currently held inside. Animal enthusiasts are sure to be enchanted by a trip here as they learn more about our incredible local wildlife, as well as critters from distant shores!

Bodmin Jail, Bodmin

Of course we had to give a nod to Bodmin Jail here! Perfect for older children, this historic building plays host to a vast array of activities, including guided themed tours, paranormal evenings, and seasonal events. For those visiting during the colder months, expect Halloween tricks and Christmas treats! You can find a full list of upcoming events as well as book tickets via their website.

Kidzworld Adventure Play, Par

What can’t you do here?! Trampolines, soft play, roller skating, dodgems, mini golf, games zones and slides. It’s a never ending list of fun stuff for kidz. They have a café on site and its open all year round. Check out their website for the latest info Kidzworld.

Grab your umbrella and head outside
